After finishing the AS Media course, and feeling confident about my coursework grade, A2 Media is undoubtedly the A2 course that I am looking forward to the most. Our topic given, that we have unveiled in lesson today is music videos, which I feel will be a lot more fun and there will be a lot more options available to be creative with it than the thrillers. I feel that it will require more skill, however we have all become experienced due to our thrillers so we are approaching these tasks with a much bigger insight into what is involved.
Music videos will definitely be fun to produce, and we are working up to creating a preliminary video, to experiment with different shots and effects we could possibly use. I feel that for the A2 course I will be best to work alone or in a group of 2 because this will allow me to have more creative control which is what I want, due to my passion for the subject particularly.
Over the course of the year we will be looking into analysing music videos and what effect they have on the audience, looking at many different theorists and views on them. We have already started to look at Andrew Goodwin's 6 Features of Music Videos.
Some of my favourite music video's are done by artist Taylor Swift, as she definitely pushes conventional boundaries by exaggerating her perceived public persona as a 'serial dater'. For example her video for Blank Space, I watched repeatedly last year because as well as telling a story, it uses many interesting shots and also conveys the video lasts over a long period of time - her relationship. The shots used in her videos really interest me, as well as the editing and her 'I Knew You Were Trouble' video even includes a monologue at the beginning, giving more of a view into the video which is a technique I will definitely think about using. The Elastic Heart Video was also one that I was intrigued over, as it was arguably controversial depending on how it was interpreted.
